I wanted to draw a mermaid and fairy who are in love

I usually use 8.5 x 11 inch sized paper but I have a hard time fitting two characters on it, so I used a larger paper; 11 x 15 inches.

I really wanted to paint a dripping waterfall as well as work on my ripples. I used several washes to build up layers.

I tried to use the direction of my brush shape to work on scales for my mermaid. I was going to use values and some white gouache to try to make them look shiny.

I did use acrylic to add some stars to her hair. It is more opaque than gouache.

I had a lot of fun painting my mermaid and fairy and I think trying to paint the scales on the mermaid’s fins gave her more depth.
